Being a Social Creature: Mr. Brown
We had a chance to speak with Martel Manning, one of the actor's in Social Creatures. Make sure to read to the end to see why he wanted to be a part of this production and why you should be part of the audience! Tympanic: Who are you in Social Creatures?
Tympanic: What drew you to the script?
Martel: The script was really well sold to me by Nathan and Dan (the Director and Artistic Director of the company respectively). Personally I was really interested in the commentary that Drury made in this piece. As an actor, the text is formatted in a very specific way. So finding how to play around with that was very exciting.
Tympanic: If you could only take one thing with you into an Apocalypse, what would it be?
Martel: A very good knife.
Tympanic: Are you a Horror Fan?/ Got any favorites?
Martel: I'm not particularly a horror fan. But one of my favorites is Alien. That movie is creepy and it stuck with me my whole life.
Tympanic: Why should people see Social Creatures?
Martel: Because the audience is right in the action. And because it's surprisingly funny. The plays creepiness is nicely juxtaposed with jokes.
